Dr. Tila Bahri founded Tooth Fairy Kids as a playful environment where each child’s fear and anxiety is replaced by a love of going to the dentist.

Born and raised in Iran, Dr. Tila studied dentistry in Turkey at Hacettepe University. She was licensed in Iran and spent two years there treating patients, many of whom were medically compromised, with mental health disorders, and in desperate need of dental services. She continues to be passionate about caring for underserved populations because “everyone deserves to have a bright smile for life.”

In 2011, Dr. Tila received her Canadian dental license from UBC and completed a General Practice Residency in Saskatoon, focusing on children with dental trauma. In 2017, she completed her MSc and Certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at UBC/BC Children’s Hospital. Since then, she has worked in many clinics across BC and Alberta.

Dr. Tila has innovated a playful hypnosis-based treatment approach that engages the imaginations of nervous children. This approach enables kids to be more patient and co-operative during procedures. “The more I learn about hypnosis, the more success I get,” she says. “It transforms going to the dentist from scary to fun.”

Each visit to Tooth Fairy Kids includes education because Dr. Tila strongly believes that the best pediatric dental care is preventive. She offers patients evidence-based advice on brushing those pearly whites, as well as on how different diets affect dental health. Her goal is to set each child up with a lifelong habit of oral self-care.

Dr. Tila is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and an active member of the Canadian Academy and the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the Canadian Dental Association. She is also a member of the Canadian Society of Clinical Hypnosis, BC division, and the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis.

Dr. Tila speaks English, Farsi, and Turkish, and is keenly sensitive to cultural differences. During her leisure hours, she enjoys dancing, spending time with family and friends, and flower arrangement. She hopes to get back to participating in local dance communities soon!
